Computer Technician

A computer technician has mastery over identification(s), installation, and configuration of hardware devices to build, maintain, upgrade, and improve performance of a computer system. If you know how to do this, people who don't will think you perform magic.

Typical Salary Range: 
$12 - $30 per hour
Who Does Well: 

People who are curious, detail-oriented, analytical, and logical. An excellent computer technician doesn't know everything, but s/he knows where to look to find the answer. The best candidates rarely panic, take a systematic approach, and won't stop until it's fixed!

Types of Employers: 

Computers break down, need upgrading, need RAM installed, and need drives replaced. What company doesn't need a computer technician? Large companies will have a more structured career path. You may also get hired with companies that provide outsourced tech support to businesses. 

Career Path: 

Can lead to jobs as a Senior Desk Support/Tech, Systems Administrator, Systems Engineer, Systems Architect

How to find a job: 

In most cases, you'll need experience to get hired, so, the best way to find a job is to land an internship or internship-to-hire. Volunteer or get hired to run as chool lab or work in computer repari at a compnay such as BestBuy. You can register with a placement agency, check job boards, or network within your LinkedIn Community.
